About The Manotick Directory

In 1996, "The Manotick Index" was first published on the Web (manotick.ncf.ca) by local resident Pat Drummond (who also started PDQ Web Designnow a library of web site, Internet and computer help). It was a very small directory with links to all the local Web sites then in existence - very few!

In 2000, the Manotick & Area Business Womens' Network (Sharon Boothroyd, Jo-Ann Mangione, Leah Kirkpatrick, etc.) became interested in spearheading a project for local businesses, and encouraged Pat to purchase a domain and expand the business directory in the growing community portal. The domain name "manotick.net" was registered for "The Manotick Directory" and the entire site was redesigned.

After the MWBN bowed out of the project, Pat decided to sell business listings for a nominal fee to keep it going, and proceeded to expand it into a comprehensive guide and source of informaiton for the entire area. Pat considered the project part business and part volunteer work for the community - providing free Web pages for many local community groups and clubs, and keeping fees as low as possible so even the smallest business could afford to promote their services and products online.

The real "value" for business is the very high ratings of "The Manotick Directory" in search engines. Pat has used her knowledge of Web marketing to make the entire site search-friendly, and promoted it regularely with popular Web search services like Google and Yahoo. Most people use search engines to find business products and services (85% in 2000). When people search for any phrases containing 'Manotick', they see pages in "The Manotick Directory" at the top of the list. Remember, on the Web, no one knows if you are large or small!
