Starting a Consulting Business

1. Visit the Entrepreneurship Centre at 111 Lisgar Street <www.entrepreneurship.com>
2. Get an accountant.
3. *Don't* incorporate unless there is a good reason to incorporate
4. Register a business number and GST number at the start. You don't have to pay GST until you earn over $30,000, but most government departments won't deal with you unless you have a GST number.
5. A sole proprietor does not need to register a business name - you can do business under your own name. A bank account under a business name has rules and costs that you don't have to deal with using a personal account.
