Ottawa: Ottawa was the second favorite destination city for immigrants: 8,448 immigrants moved here. Many Ottawans work in government and technology. Ottawa's area is 2,800 square kilometres, larger than Luxembourg and a bit smaller than Samoa. Our population is similar to San Jose, California and Oslo, Norway. In one of the most connected countries in the world, Ottawa is a wired community. In 2001 79% of us had computers, of which 86% were connected to the Net (Citizen/COMPAS poll).
Rideau Ward: In 2001, Rideau Ward had 12,800 residents living in 434 square kilometres, a largely rural area, helping to make Ottawa the largest agricultural economy in Canada. In 2004, Rideau Ward had 13,735 people. (Forecast for 2006 is 14,700; for 2015 16,300) Most of us commute to work in government and technology outside the ward in which we live. Although population was low, average income and house prices were among the highest in Ottawa. In 2003, 20% of our population was from another country, and one in seven of us was a visible minority.
