Since 1987, The Miller's Oven has been a popular eating spot for breakfast, lunch or coffee in a heritage 2-story house in the heart of the village. A friendly and relaxed atmosphere combined with reasonable prices which bring people back again and again. The dedicated volunteers are always friendly and helpful and create a homey environment to match the antique furniture. The food and kitchen is clean and right at one end of the largest room. Look at (or buy) art by local artists on the walls.
The Food
Everything served at the Miller's Oven is made on site. Lunch features soup, sandwiches and quiche. Stop in for muffins, scones or a slice of homemade pie any time. Sit with friends or enjoy a quiet cup of tea, or a cold juice or iced tea. Your tea is served in a pot with a hand-knitted tea cozy! Monday features a lunch special for seniors - soup, sandwich and a drink at a very reasonable price.
The Miller's Oven has seating for just over 40, so plan to come early if you don't have a lot of time. Reservations are not accepted so seating is always first come, first served.
The Mission
The Miller's Oven is a non-profit cafe managed by The Rideau Millers Oven Seniors Committee. It is run by volunteers, mostly seniors and students. A primary function of the Miller's Oven is to provide a place for seniors to network- part social network, part recreational circle and part family. The Miller's Oven is always looking for new volunteers. Drop in to check it out for yourself.
Community Support
All proceeds from the cafe support the operation of the cafe but the "Tip Jar" given to the adult volunteers is donated to local community groups. Over the years more than $225,000 has been donated to seniors groups, food banks, and outreach programs run by the local churches.
