Merchant of Venice Shakespeare in full - a comedic tale of love and usury begins when Bassanio borrows from Antonio to pursue the lovely Portia. But, Antonio borrows from Shylock to help Bassanio and signs a contract promising a pound of flesh. In the end Bassanio gets his Portia, Antonio escapes in one piece, and Shylock is tried for plotting against a Venetian citizen. All's fair in love and war, even if the romance is with money! |
