Kathryn Elizabeth Briggs + William Terence Tufts

K.E.W.T.

Kathryn and Terry have been making music together for close to 20 years.

TERRY TUFTS has been playing music since 1963 and as a profession musician for four decades. His technique is of the same school that created David Rea, Red Shea, John Fahey, Stephen Stills, and Leo Kottke. Born in Gasline, Ontario on Lake Erie, his talents have carried him all over the world where he has been employed by numerous artists in the studio and in live performance (Tom Paxton, David Francey, Colleen Peterson, Laura Smith, Ian Tamblyn, Bill Garrett & Sue Lothrop, The Arrogant Worms, Wayne Rostad, Susan Aglukark, Tracey Brown, and George Fox) for his abilities on a variety of instruments and vocals. He has recorded 6 solo albums, and made several appearances on compilation albums, most notably Beautiful: A Tribute to Gordon Lightfoot. He and Kathryn began working together soon after marrying in 1998 and continue to collaborate and perform.

KATHRYN BRIGGS began making music at the age of seven and it gradually became her life's work. She spent her formative years learning from several eclectic teachers and then proceeded to establish a successful teaching career of her own. In October 2000 she released her first album of original piano works entitled Small Awakenings, an instrumental project produced by Ian Tamblyn. Performing her melodic piano creations for receptive audiences across Canada, her talents have also been shared as a keyboard player and backup vocalist with artists such as Laura Smith, the Inuit duo Tudjaat, Kelli Trottier, and of course, Terry. Several years later she arranged and recorded a collection of Christmas music with Juno-winner David Francey - Carols for a Christmas Eve.

"Individually they are well-known and well-respected musicians; Kathryn for her dazzling and lyrical piano playing and Terry for his virtuoso-level finger-style guitar playing. This past year they joined forces to create a new musical entity, K.E.W.T., and released their début CD Mother Lode, a baker's dozen of acoustic, instrumental compositions that are pure joy to listen to." – Rob Riendeau, theHumm
