2023 Manotick Round-the-Islands Race

The 2nd annual Manotick-Round-the-Islands Paddle was held on Saturday, June 17. This event saw paddlers completely circumnavigate both Long and Nicolls Islands, portaging around the Mill and the Long Island Locks. Competitors were thus tested in portaging steep terrain, flat water strength and technique, and the art of reading the rapids. The back channel is enjoyed for its many quiet and scenic stretches; and the low water levels of summer add the puzzle of finding a passage through the occasional novice level rapids.

The medal winning duo of Christine Balderson and Ben Reese from Ottawa completed the course in one hour, fifty-six minutes, 59.53 seconds.

• 2023 Registration & Information
• The 10-km. paddle is clockwise around Long & Nicolls Islands. It starts and ends at the Manotick Boat Launch, 5495 South River Dr. at Bridge St.
• There are two portages
  • Around Watson's Mill Dam: Pull out at the O'Grady St. dock. Carry up the stairs to Dickinson St. Turn right and carry past the Mill. Relaunch at the Manotick Remembrance Park, beside Bridge St.
  • Long Island Locks: Dock anywhere along the land on the west side of the lower lock exit. Carry up the steps to the canoe dock, usually just west of the upper lock entrance.
• Entry fee:$20 per person or $35 per canoe/kayak/paddleboard.
  OMCKRA Members: $12 per person or $20 per canoe/kayak/paddleboard.
• Medals awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, in solo and pairs, plus random dissimilitudes.
